50 Metre Pistol
(previously called Free Pistol)

Regarded by many as the purest form of precision pistol shooting. Previously known as Free Pistol, 50m Pistol is a precision event shooting 60 shots, one-handed, over 50 metres in two hours. The target used is the ISSF Precision Target with the 10 ring 50 mm in diameter. Each shooter has one target which is replaced, patched, and scored at intervals during the match. The match includes 60 scoring shots for a maximum desired score of 600. Due to the distance of this match, most shooters will utilise a "Spotting Scope" to monitor their progress.

Any .22LR handgun is allowed but those normally used are long-barrelled, single shot target pistols designed specifically for this match. There is no trigger weight minimum as long as its safe. Customised grips to suit the shooter's own hand are allowed as long as they don't encroach on the wrist. There are very few rules relative to the match and the the gun itself, however the firearm can only be fired with a one handed grip and only with only 1 round of ammunition loaded and discharged at a time.
